When You Can Split Pairs
Any 2 cards with the same face value are considered a pair in blackjack. You are allowed to split any pair that’s dealt to you, although basic strategy will teach you which hands to split and which ones to not split.
When you’re splitting a pair, you’re taking your hand and turning it into 2 new hands. You put up another bet for the new hand, and this bet is always the same as your original bet.
To signal the dealer that you’re splitting your cards, you separate them and put a new wager on one of them.When it’s your turn to act, you get to play out both hands, win or lose. Some casinos allow you to split again if you receive another card that’s identical to the first 2, and some casinos do not allow this.
When you split aces, you’re only allowed to take one additional card for each ace.
Always split aces and 8’s. Never split 4′, 5’s or 10’s.
